Your whole outing, with time for stops. All rides start and finish at Castel Sant’Angelo, on the Tiber path.
Off unless you turn it on. When on, this page sends which rides you were shown, opened, compared and chose, so we can suggest better ones: no location, no account. What is sent
Rides are modelled from OpenStreetMap and terrain data and are not field-checked yet. Ranges show estimated riding time at your level’s pace; the outing budget also allows for stops. Low traffic stress includes quiet/shared streets, not just separated paths. Check current conditions before you go. The Tiber path is on the low quays: they close when the river is high, and in summer evenings the quays near Trastevere fill with festival stalls. The Appia Antica is old stone paving, shared with cars except on Sundays.

In parts. Car traffic in the centre is heavy, but the car-free stretches make good rides. Our Tiber path ride to Ponte Milvio is 10 km with 100% on bike paths and quiet streets, and the Villa Borghese ride is 94%.
Each ride shows its share on busier roads, so you can see before you go. The Monte Ciocci ride is 48% quiet.
All Rome rides · How rides are made
Yes. The path on the quays is for runners and bikes only, with no cars. Our ride from Castel Sant'Angelo up to Ponte Milvio and back is 10 km with 14 m of climbing. Going the other way, the ride to Ponte di Mezzocammino is 34 km.
The Ponte Milvio ride · The Mezzocammino ride
Yes, on the old Roman road south of the walls. Weekends are quietest, but the rules for cars have changed, so check the day. The old paving is bumpy. Our ride from the Appia to the tomb of Caecilia Metella is 20 km; the loop that adds the Parco degli Acquedotti is 32 km.
Our Appia rides stop at the tomb: the stone paving beyond it is not in our model yet.

Hire from a shop, or use bike share for short hops. We list 7 shops, mostly around the Colosseum and Termini. One e-bike shop near Piramide starts at 20 EUR a day. Bike share (Dott, Bird, Lime) is paid in an app. For a full day out, or a child, a shop is easier.
Not for most of our rides. The Tiber and Villa Borghese rides climb 14 m and 40 m, and their steepest 500 m is under 3%. Hills start in the Castelli Romani: that loop climbs 657 m over 73 km. Consider an e-bike for it.
The Villa Borghese ride · The Castelli Romani loop
Yes, as a long day. Our loop goes out by the aqueducts to Frascati, Castel Gandolfo and Lake Albano: 73 km with 657 m of climbing, and only 28% on bike paths and quiet streets. The steepest 500 m is 8%. Start early and take water.
