What this site collects today
Joyful Rides has no accounts, no forms, no cookies and no third-party analytics. Unless you turn on sharing (below), nothing about you is stored by us.
- The ride page keeps a random session number in your browser tab (session storage) so it can tell your choices apart from someone else's. It is deleted when you close the tab.
- The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to run and protect the service.
- Fonts and brand assets are served by this site. On the planner, your browser loads files from other services, which see your IP address: unpkg (the MapLibre map library), OpenFreeMap (map tiles) and Amazon Web Services (terrain tiles).
If you turn on "Share anonymous choices"
The ride page has a switch, off unless you turn it on. When it is on, the page sends us what you did with the rides, so we can learn which rides people like and suggest better ones:
- the rides you were shown, and which you opened, compared, chose, downloaded or copied a link to;
- the level, time, e-bike and kids choices you made;
- the random session number and the time of each action.
It sends no location, no name, no email and no account. Our server refuses any event containing a position, and rounds a starting point to about 500 m if one is ever sent. We do not add your IP address or browser type to these records. They are kept for up to 13 months in their own database, run for us by Upstash, separate from the map data. Turn the switch off at any time to stop sending. Because the session number is random and stays in your tab, we cannot tell which records are yours, so we cannot look them up or delete them on request.
Google API data
Our own research tools use the Google Ads API to read keyword-planning statistics (search volumes and estimated costs per click) for our own Google Ads account. We use them to decide where Joyful Rides is worth building. We do not access anyone else's Google account. We do not sell or share this data, and we do not use it to train AI models.
Joyful Rides' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
When this changes
Recording rides in the app will be described here, and need its own permission, before anything is recorded. We will update this page before we collect anything new.
