Rides for you

Loading rides…

Rides are modelled from OpenStreetMap and terrain data and are not field-checked yet. Ranges show estimated riding time at your level’s pace; the outing budget also allows for stops. Low traffic stress includes quiet/shared streets, not just separated paths. Check current conditions before you go. In the royal parks and on Hampstead Heath, bikes may use the marked routes only. The Cycleway 3 track on Constitution Hill and the Mall can close for ceremonies and events: check closures around Buckingham Palace. The Regent’s Canal towpath is narrow and busy, and walkers have priority; at Camden Lock the ride leaves the towpath for the street. Richmond Park’s roads carry cars, and its gates close to cars at night. The Thames path near Hampton Court can flood at high spring tides: check the tide. Hampton Court Palace charges for entry, and Crystal Palace Park’s gates close in the evening.

No. The Highway Code says you should wear a helmet that fits and is fastened, not that you must. The choice is yours. Santander Cycles is a bike share, so bring your own helmet, or ask a rental shop when you book.

What are the rules for cycling in London?

Stop at red lights and keep off the pavement: the Highway Code says you must do both. On a shared path, keep to the cyclists' side and give people on foot plenty of room. After dark you need a white front light and a red rear one, both lit.

Can I take my bike on the Tube or the train in London?

Folded bikes ride free on the Tube at all times. Full-size bikes are allowed on some sections, and on many Overground and Elizabeth line trains, outside the weekday peaks of 07:30 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00. Since 31 March 2025 TfL bans non-folding e-bikes. Buses take folding bikes only.
