Rides are modelled from OpenStreetMap and terrain data and are not field-checked yet. Ranges show estimated riding time at your level’s pace; the outing budget also allows for stops. Low traffic stress includes quiet/shared streets, not just separated paths. Check current conditions before you go.

Questions riders ask

Is Copenhagen good for biking?

Yes. VisitCopenhagen reported in 2020 that 49% of trips to work or school are by bike, and our rides climb little. Our Harbour Circle is 12 km with 20 m of climbing, and 83% is on bike paths and quiet streets. Amager Strandpark is 99%.

Our rides start at the Nyhavn landing of Inderhavnsbroen, the bike and foot bridge over the harbour.

What are the rules for cycling in Copenhagen?

Ride in the bike lane and keep to the right. Put your hand up before you stop and signal right before you turn. You may not turn left directly: ride across to the opposite right corner, stop, and wait for the green. After dark you need a white front light and a red rear light.

Give way to people on foot at crossings, junctions and bus stops.

How do I rent a bike in Copenhagen?

Hire from a shop or use bike share in an app. We list 9 shops. Bike Copenhagen near Nikolaj Plads shows a city bike at 195 DKK a day, or 150 DKK for 3 hours. Donkey Republic is a bike-share app with pedal and e-bikes. A shop is easier for a child's bike, a cargo bike or a helmet.

Can I take my bike on the train or Metro in Copenhagen?

Yes, outside the rush hours. On S-trains bikes are free, but you cannot board or get off at Nørreport from 7:00 to 9:00 or 15:30 to 17:30 on weekdays. The Metro takes bikes with a bike ticket outside those same hours. The harbour bus takes bikes with a ticket too.

What are the best bike rides in Copenhagen?

Start with the harbour, the lakes and the coast. The Harbour Circle crosses Teglværksbroen and Cykelslangen, 12 km. The Little Mermaid and the Lakes is 7 km, and the coast to Dragør is 35 km. All 18 rides start at Nyhavn.

We pick rides from open map data, not from lists: each shows its distance, climbing and share on busier roads.

Can you cycle to a beach from central Copenhagen?

Yes, there are three. The ride to Amager Strandpark is 12 km with 99% on bike paths and quiet streets. Svanemølle Strand is 11 km, and Havnevigen is 8 km. None climbs more than 25 m, so all three are close to flat.
